Protein is the macronutrient most reliably correlated with satiety, which is why people who eat out frequently and watch their weight often anchor their orders to it. The good news is that most casual dining menus have plenty of high-protein options — they are just not always advertised as such.

How to read this

Protein density (grams of protein per 100 calories) is a more useful metric than raw protein when you are also calorie-conscious. A 1,200-calorie steak with 80g protein looks impressive, but a 600-calorie grilled fish with 50g protein delivers more protein per calorie. Both have a place; just know which one you are picking.

Sodium tends to scale with protein at sit-down chains because the kitchens lean heavily on brines, marinades and finishing salt. If you are tracking sodium too, request that any visible salt or finishing seasoning be reduced.
